8-Day Trip: Rumble in the Jungle
Adventurers who are looking for the ultimate in their visit to Chiriqui need look no further than the 8-day trip offered by Boquete Outdoor Adventures. Known as the "Rumble in the Jungle," the journey starts in cosmopolitan Panama City and ends there, but everything else is about the great outdoors. From hiking and biking near the Panama Canal and in Boquete's cloudforest to enjoying the rivers and beaches of the Chiriqui province, this is the perfect opportunity to take it all in during an action-packed vacation.
Day 1 – Arrival in Panama City
A member of the Boquete Outdoor Adventure team will be waiting for you upon arrival at Tocumen International Airport. You will be brought to your comfortable Panama City hotel and will have the day to explore Panama's world-famous capital.
Panama City is one of the most metropolitan cities in Latin America and it is filled with things to do and see. Whether visiting the old city, the casinos, or one of the amazing shopping malls, Panama City is loaded with adventure and is a great place to spend the day. Included: transporation from Tocumen International Airport to a Panama City lodging.
Day 2 – Panama City Tour Description
We pick you up at your hotel around 8am (depending on the location of your hotel). Starting with an incredible view of the city from atop Cerro Ancon, before heading off to the Miraflores Locks to watch the ships transit the locks, learn more about the canal at the museum and watch a short film about the canal's history. Check out the artisan market for the best Panamanian made souvenirs before we head to the Amador for a photo stop at the Bridge of the Americas, a short nature trail walk on the Smithsonian owned Punta Culebra and lunch (not included). The rest of the afternoon will be spent on a walking tour of old town, Casco Viejo. Marvel at its spectacular architecture and learn about the history of this world heritage site. From Casco Viejo we provide transport back to your hotel, or you can decide to stay for sunset, dinner or drinks in one of the many plazas. Included: transportation from and to lodging, entrance fees to Miraflores Locks and Punta Culebra, tour guide, lunch.
Day 3 - Panama Indigenous Village & Monkey Island Tour Description
We pick you up at your hotel around 8am. After a short drive, we will leave Panama city behind, pass the Panama Canal's famous Culebra Cut, Gamboa resort, and Chagres River before we head into the Soberania National Park. Known for its birding (the Audubon Society's annual bird count has spotted over 500 species in 24 hours!), Soberania is full of wildlife and is a wonderful place to watch for monkeys, sloth, the Harpy Eagle and more. We will take a boat out on the lake and head to an island to see some monkeys!
We will stop for a bite at the Gamboa Rainforest Resort and take in the views up the Chagres River. After lunch, we will visit an authentic indigenous village. Learn about the community history, art, music and dance. You can hike along the trails through the rainforest to learn about the plants they use and how they use them and check out traditional fishing methods. Included: transportation from and to lodging, park entrance fees, indigenous village tour, lake tour to monkey island, lunch. *If it rains you get wet! **Wear shoes that can handle a little dirt/mud.
Day 4 – Whitewater Rafting on a Heart-Pounding Chiriqui River
This journey is sure to offer the kind of heart-pounding excitement that makes Chiriqui a famous whitewater rafting destination! After picking you up around 8 am, we will take a 90-minute trip from Boquete to one of Chiriqui´s many roaring rivers, where you will get the chance to take on the rapids one by one.
With runs ranging from Class 2 to Class 4, based on water levels, the Boquete Outdoor Adventures guides will pick the river that is right for the experience and skill level of the group. This trip is one of the highlights of any Boquete Outdoor Adventures package vacation and is one that no one will want to miss. Lunch is included and you will return to the Boquete Outdoor Adventures office after your thrilling day. Included: transportation from and to lodging, equipment, guides, and lunch. MUST BRING: ORIGINAL PASSPORT for foreigners or cedula for Panamanians.
Day 5 – Waterfall Hike at Lost Waterfalls Nature Reserve / Coffee Farm Tour
A Boquete Outdoor Adventures guide will meet you at your lodging around 8 am and drive to the Lost Waterfalls Nature Reserve in the beautiful Boquete mountains. During this hike through the cloud forest, you will be serenaded by the sounds of babbling brooks and falling water as we visit some of the most beautiful scenery in Central America. While trekking along the Quebrada La Mina and some of Boquete's most exquisite waterfalls, you have the perfect opportunity to jump in for a refreshing shower.
Following the hike, you will spend the afternoon at the famous Finca Dos Jefes coffee farm, learning about and enjoying some of the world's finest organic coffee. This is a great opportunity to learn about the coffee process, from bean to cup, in the Boquete highlands. Once the tour is over, you will be delivered back to your lodging. Included: transportation from and to lodging, guide(s), and Panamanian tipico lunch.
Day 6 and 7 – Sea Kayaking, Snorkeling and Fun at Golfo de Chiriqui National Marine Park
This exciting journey leaves Boquete around 7 am and arrives at Boca Brava around 8:30-9:00 am, where a boat will be waiting for the trip to Golfo de Chiriqui National Marine Park. On this 30 minute boat ride, you will make your way through the Laguna de Chiriqui, passing the mangrove forests before arriving at the park. The 14,740-hectacre Golfo de Chiriqui National Marine Park is home to countless plants, exotic fish, and animals such as howler monkeys, leatherback turtles, dolphins, tiger herons, and more.
The trip will be filled with sea kayaking, snorkeling, fishing, swimming or simply relaxing in a hammock, enjoying the sounds of the waves. Because there is so much to do and see here, the trip is an overnight excursion. All of the camping equipment is provided, along with the items for sea kayaking and snorkeling. If camping, lunch and dinner are included on Day 6 and breakfast and lunch are included on Day 7. If staying in the hotel, lunch is included Day 6 and 7. After this great adventure to one of the most amazing natural treasures found in the Chiriqui province, we will drive you back to your Boquete lodging. Included: transportation from and to lodging, motorboat transportation, snorkeling and kayaking gear, guides, and lunch both days if you choose to stay in a hotel OR all meals while camping IF you choose to camp.
Day 8 – Return Journey to Panama City
After enjoying another delicious Panamanian breakfast, you will be taken back to Enrique Malek International Airport in David to make your way back to Panama City. Included: transportation from lodging to Enrique Malek International Airport, breakfast.
