Trip Description:

This special “Surf and Turf” package combines highland mountains and island beaches. This cultural and relaxing vacation visits Panama’s famous Gulf of Chiriqui National Marine Park, coffee-producing highlands, and ancient cloud forests, and ancient rock formations.

TOUR 1 – Morning: Hike in Cloud Forests

After the short 25-minute drive to the trailhead, in the early morning mist, your hike through the cloud forest will be full of babbling brooks and old growth trees as we visit some of the most beautiful scenery in Central America. While trekking to some of Boquete’s most exquisite microclimates, you have the perfect opportunity to learn about the interesting flora and fauna of the Panama forests. The narrated scenic drive and informative hike through the cloud forest will be a highlight of your trip to Boquete. We usually select the Pipeline Trail for its ease for children up to fit grandparents, as well as its diverse ecology. Afterwards, you will be returned to Boquete, so you can clean up and have free-time to explore the mountain town and enjoy lunch on your own before your afternoon tour.

Includes: Roundtrip Transportation, Trail Entrance Fees, Knowledgeable English-Speaking Guides, and Refreshments.

TOUR 2 (Option 1) – Afternoon Cultural Coffee Tour

In the morning or afternoon, you will visit an intimate coffee farm in the Chiriqui Highlands, to learn about and enjoy some of the world’s finest grown coffee in the world. This is an unforgettable opportunity to learn about the coffee process, from cherry to cup, in the Boquete highlands. There will be a short walk around the farm through the coffee tree fields and a look at the cherry drying beds, an in-depth explanation of the history of the coffee industry, and a coffee cupping and tasting, hand-roasting.

Includes: Roundtrip Transportation, Knowledgeable Guide, Coffee Cupping and Tasting.

TOUR 2 (Option 2) – Afternoon Cangilones Mini-Canyon and Rock Formations

This is the perfect afternoon for those who just completed a morning hike, coffee tour, or other activity. Located in the district of Gualaca, these unique rock formations have survived time and weather. A river crossing the canyon allows jumping from it (up to 12 feet or 4 meters). Many people enjoy swimming in the aquamarine waters, others enjoy climbing the canyon’s walls, and even more just like to relax and sunbathe on the warm rock surface. For rock climbers, there are excellent opportunities for deep-water soloing on the canyon walls.

The Canyon has been in Gualaca for thousands of years, as a geological formation that was pushed up from the ocean during the formation of the Isthmus of Panama. It’s interesting to see ancient sea fossils at this elevation.

Includes: Roundtrip Transportation, Knowledgeable Guide.

TOUR 3 – Island Trip to the Gulf of Chiriqui National Marine Park

From Boquete, we’ll drive 1.5 hours to Boca Chica, a small fishing village on the Pacific Coast. Then, we’ll pass through the mangrove forested volcanic islands of Laguna de Chiriqui toward the the Gulf of Chiriqui National Marine Park, a 14,740 hectare marine park with uninhabited islands which serves as a refuge for howler monkeys, leatherback and hawksbill turtles, tiger herons, and exotic fish.

The sun tends to shine over the white sand, palm-lined beaches in Gulf of Chiriqui even when it’s raining everywhere else! Depending on visibility and climate, we’ll be snorkeling around one of the beautiful islands and pass the late morning and better part of the afternoon lunching, exploring, swimming, relaxing in a hammock, and playing on the white sand beaches of   Isla Bolanos.

BONUS: It’s humpback whale watching season July – October, if you’ve never seen these amazingly majestic creatures in their natural habitat, here is your chance to witness mothers and babies nursing in the protected waters of the National Marine Park.

SPECIAL ADD-ON OPTION: Overnight Hotel Island Stay.
